The Fat Lady Is Warming Up

Well, I kept the garden alive into November. I've never been able to get past mid-late October, but with some strategic nightly covering, and a little luck, I kept some sweet pepper and jalapeno plants going. The habaneros were a little more fickle, and I think succumbed on the night of 10/20. I picked the remaining fruits and after about two weeks of indoor maturing, pickled two half pint jars.

The night of 11/6 was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Covering the remaining plants did not help, as the overnight temperature dipped at least as low as 26 degrees. I am actually surprised by the broccoli plants. They never grew much, let alone produced, but they all now have a small center head growing. With a little luck, I might actually get some broccoli in another week or two. I also had a small, second crop of pea plants come up from pea pods I must have missed back in July. I'm not sure if I'll get a second harvest, but it is good to know I can double plant in the future should I need to.
